Title: 2018-03-24 Highland Park Diamond Hunt
Post by: Fencejumper09 on March 14, 2018, 08:54:47 AM
Changing plans:

When 3-24-18 9am CST
Where Highland Park - Cedartown, GA
What: Planning to hit all of the 4 & 5 Diamond Trails

Where: Hollytree Offroad Park http://www.hollytreeoffroad.com/ (http://www.hollytreeoffroad.com/)
When: 3-24-18 9AM - 4PM
What: TKO Training

I am planning to leave the Birmingham area around 6:00am with a breakfast stop on the way.

I will be riding as much of the difficult stuff as I can take, but feel free to come along and ride some of the other trails. We will probably take a warm up on Loop 1 or 2 to get our blood flowing! The main objective for me is to get as much of the difficult stuff in as possible to try to prepare for the TKO. I know that this is not everyone's cup of tea but the Park has plenty of fun jeep trails that have some technical spots!

Post up if you want to join us!!

Expect Roots and Clay!

The worst of the storms caused trees downed up near the state line on Hwy 65. @Fencejumper09

I'll let you know if I hear of any other damage.

i'm kind of a crybaby about mud right now... that last two times i drove north to play in the mud were very long days of very short riding milage. :-)

did see a lot of damage to cars/stuff on the facebook news thing. hope everyone made it through without much damage :-(

I played at hollytree last weekend. It was very wet and does reduce riding time.  Supposed to rain this weekend again.

Post up below with your choice:

A. Hollytree with light rain beginning at 10AM

B. Highland Park hitting all the 4 and 5 diamond trails

C. Other Option

Highland park drains better (trails) once you get past the red ring of slide.

C. Highland Park and crush the 6 Diamond trail  (They still have a 6 diamond right?)

I'm in. Let's do this. I'm leaving from Springville so my route is a little different from the BHAM guys. So unless anyone is heading up 59 through Gadsden, I'll see you guys there.

I really need to get my radiator fan working.

David picked me up at six am, and we met Mulley at HP.. Rode every 5/6 diamond trail we could find, didn't break anything, and only dropped the bike twice. I was so happy to get a flat tire the last time we went out, I was toast at that point anyway. 32 miles  at the park , whew!

:-)

It was a long and difficult day of riding but what a good time! The only diamonds we could find were Pucker Diamonds we made every time we came up to some off camber roots!

Pictures and videos should be posted in ride report sometime this week!!

Great ride fellas!

Highland Park has some great trails. We didn't ride any double track other than the main loop road. We hit, I think, all but one of the 4 thru 6 diamond trails. Even doing the 6 diamond twice and a few of the harder 5 diamond trails multiple times. I'm still sore today and I had multiple muscles cramping up during the ride. Pickles and mustard couldn't even stop the cramping.

They are going to have to do some major repair work on some of the trails. They have some pretty good ruts and dug out roots that will just beat you silly. This is good if that's what you are into but I imagine most of their customers like to have less of their dental fillings jarred out and to maintain cartilage in there knees. All three of us have recently been working on hard enduro type riding so it turned out to be a pretty good practice day for us. Riding wise we all did pretty well, taking turns in the lead. My cardio is lacking tremendously. I need some time on a row machine, stationary bikes and such to really push myself. Losing a few stones would help too (a few stones sounds much better than the equivalent in pounds).

I didn't take a single picture. Sorry guys.
