Just fyi to anyone, my son Cameron went down yesterday. We were in Maryville, TN by the dragons Pitt BBQ.
Short version:
Slow left hand corner, 30-35 mph, late apex turn in, caught the peg and lowsided.
Bike and son slammed steel guardrail.
He was airlifted to UT Knoxville.
Broken femur, lacerated spleen, displaced hip, L2&3 fractured vertebrae. Bruised all over back arms and legs.
Surgery was yesterday for leg. Rest is monitoring for healing on its own.
Only rash is at knee where the suit seams split and impacted.
Wear your gear! It will save your life!
No head trauma suffered either!
Oh, wow, Rob. So sorry to hear this. Let us know if you guys need anything.
Bummer :(
Sorry to hear this. Let us know if you need anything!
Sorry to hear that. I always roll thru Maryville relatively care free. Sad reminder to always be careful no matter the environment. Hope for a speedy recovery.

Crap!
Hope he bounces back soon.
Best wishes for him.
Sorry to hear Rob. I hope he heals fully and quickly.
Hate to hear this. If there's anything we can do, let us know.
Praying for you and your son. If you need help getting the bike or anything back home just say the word.
Man, that's bad. You are correct, it could've been a lot worse without proper gear. I hope he recovers fast and well.
Is there anything we can do to help?
I assume you are still in Knoxville.
Tell Cameron we are praying for him.
Praying for Cameron and your family.
Dang man, hate to see this. Hope he will be ok and all goes well!
Prayers, Hopefully he will bounce back quickly.
Cams feeling better, but still no feeling in leg, he is able to move it a little, but no weight on it like they want him too.
Ortho keeps telling him that he HAS to get up on crutches and move around, but with his back swollen up, he has a hard time.
No cast either! They told us that way he can get back into moving around quicker.
Bike is at a friends in Rome, GA and will be transported to my house end of week for insurance to see.
Thanks for all the prayers
Hope your son recovers fast. Lots if people are praying for him.
Keep us updated and let him know we are all praying for a speedy recovery.
Man I hate to hear that. Hope your son recovers quickly.
Updates today, not good news

On Saturday, July 30th, Cameron was in a motorcycle accident.
He was life flighted to UT Knoxville.
He sustained severe injuries.
Transverse fractures of L1-L5
Lacerated spleen
Broken femur
Displaced hip which has been upgraded to rear pelvic fracture now.
But praise above, he is alive!
Some close friends (family to me) have setup accounts to help with costs while we are here with him.
Quote from them:
"
As many of you know Rob's son Cameron went down at the Gap Meet... and is still in the hospital with a broken leg, fractured vertebra, & dislocated (or fractured) hip.
So we are going to take up an anonymous collection for him... you can send to my paypal (k4bacon@gmail.com) anonymously or directly to him at Jen1inorlando@hotmail.com. Please send as a gift to keep from charging fees... Not doing a gofund me due to the excessive fees that they charge...
Anything would help... "
Cam is awake and alert, but can't do much more than move his arms and head at this point.
He was wearing full protective leather gear. It saved his life!
I was behind him when it happened, and would never wish for anyone to witness that for someone they love.
So while we wait on more tests, results, and progress, please keep him in your thoughts and prayers, and keep the positive vibes coming!
That's terrible, I'm sorry you're going through this. Can we do anything locally for you?
Thanks for listing a PayPal. Still hoping for a good recovery.

Today is little better. His swelling has subsided, but the pain level has increased.
They upped his dosage a bit to compensate for that.
He still has no range of motion, or feeling in his left leg when upright.
His so is a grade 3 laceration. (1-5 scale) and is on thinners to prevent clots sue to being immobile
The good news is he sounds like he's going to make a full, albeit painful, recovery. I'd imagine it was incredibly stressful on you, I'm sure it was a great comfort to him having you there with him when it happened.
Hope he heals fast and strong and is anxious to get back on the road.
I'm sending positive vibes his way.
He's feeling better today, but the thinners and pain meds are making him nauseated. Ortho said surgical side of things looks solid, and sutures are healing well, minimal drainage. Cam says he has sharp pains still in his hip area. But overall his pain level is at a 4. Hoping they will try and get him mobile today with pt, but no idea when. If he can show them he can move around on crutches, they will consider signing off on discharge later in the week. But they are not pushing him to actually get on them.
If they have a way to do water therapy, it would be a great start and be less weight on his legs to hold him up to begin with. We will continue to be praying for y'all.

Update today, PT has signed off on his mobility. He is still a fall risk, and on 1-10 scale his mobility is a 2
Trauma is still concerned with his spleen, and we are hoping after today's blood work and ultra sound, that they will consider discharge by tomorrow.
Hope he heals fully and quickly. We're here if you need anything.
We are home now.. the real journey has just begun
Congrats on getting home. I know there's a lot of P.T. to go. Let us know if we can help at all.

I can't ever thank everyone here that has shown support for cam!
He is using a walker easier than crutches. I am his permanent shadow due to high fall risk for his spleen. But he is mobile and doing better. Ortho is scheduled in 10 days for first follow up and hopefully pt!
Anything new?
Sorry, been busy. Updates as of today. Cam is getting around better between the walker, and the crutches. He will remain a fall risk for 6 months, due to his spleen, and requires a shadow/buddy whenever he is up and moving around. He already missed the first week of school. We will not know more until after is ortho and doc follow ups next week.
thanks.
they totaled out the bike, however buy back was 1200, and insurance covered the loan payoff+gear replacement value. so buying it back was not an option.
Motor, forks, rims, and frame were all good, and the bike ran still!
NOW, here is the kick in the nutz!
Salvage yard came to get bike yesterday. Guy shows up on a rollback flatbed with a car on it. I bring the bike to the road, he drops the car, rolls the bike up and DUMPS it on its side, then hooks up the car and proceeds to pull it up the flatbed, rolling it over the bike to "secure it". I watched oil pour down the deck, from the hole in the crankcase of the bike.
I was almost in Tears !!!! The CBR500R was now literally junk! All it would have taken to get it back to 100% was new plastics and tank, and some small parts. and to unbolt the subframe and replace it. Ebay total parts was sub $1500. OR they could have gone the naked route (CBR500F) which was under $1000 for parts.
Seriously, had I known they would have literally dragged it away, I would have removed the chain, sprockets, rims, and tires (they were all new, and under 1000 miles total)
Any updates on Cameron?
So sorry. Been so busy.
Cam is recovering quick! He is back at school now with fall risk restrictions. (Has to have a walking buddy)
3 week Ortho follow up went good, pulled staples, and said " Get to walking son! "
Since Dr JJ Maddox was also MY ortho from a few years ago, and is the reason I still have a foot and walking, he said he will allow us to do home based PT.
The catch is.... as long as in 4 weeks time he is walking !
So we have been doing pt skills daily , and slowly his confidence in his leg is returning. His Gait is the hardest thing to correct, but we are getting there.
I was almost in tears when he said "Dad, how am I doing?" Then he did this last night.
Glad to hear his recovery is progressing along nicely. Keep it up!!! I think it is safe for me to speak for everyone when I say we are all rooting for him!!!
That's awesome.

Way to go Cameron.
So cam is 100% crutch free now! 7 weeks post op.... Not too shabby!
Ortho visit yesterday. Doc says it looks like they cut some tendon or muscle stuff away when they inserted the rod, which is why he has a dominant drop in his left side. He's hoping that it will regenerate enough to fix the swing step he has when walking. But if it doesn't, then he will have that funny walk for life....sigh.
We shall see!
So glad to hear he is doing well!
It's been 8 weeks since his accident, but feels like 8 months !
Update on Cam! Full walking without assistance, next week is his MRI for spleen, and he is at 80% walking with 100% range of motion.
There was a tendon not reattached by his hip when they inserted the femur rod. So as it heals and strengthens, he will hopefully lose the DIP in his walk
