Come ride with us.....campout Friday night here or just ride in Saturday morning.
Breakfast served Saturday morning, then we'll ride, route to be determined.
We'll have our 2nd annualv viewing of the classic "Little Fauss and Big Halsey" on Saturday night outside on the big screen(bigger than last year) ;D
More info to come as we get closer.
Not sure when, but I plan to make this ride maybe camp.
General location?
Here we go again. How about "On Any Sunday" instead.
i'm in like flinn
377 County Road 1286, Vinemont, Al. 35179
I've got a question for suggestions....
The route last year was a hoot, but the hour+ ride up to the good stuff was not pleasant. I'm thinking of staying closer to home this year, much like the route year before last.
Thoughts ???
We'll, more than likely, stay away from Bankhead since our spring ride covers the best of that area. I'm thinking Northern Cullman county, and southeastern Morgan....maybe work some of Joe Wheeler into the mix for a change.
Some of you are familiar with the area, give me some suggestions.......I may just surprise everyone.
For "Go Fast/Hoodlum riders" I'll try and work in something, but this ride is more relaxed than the Bankhead ride.
The adult beverage of choice for this ride.....

NOPE 8).....we've all seen that, several times(although it's an excellent movie), maybe Friday night?? ;).....
Fauss and Halsey is a CLASSIC....if it ain't, well..I'm doing my part to make it one. ;D
I'll be there for the ride on Saturday. I really enjoyed the ride 2 years ago and doing a similar ride again would be just fine with me. The cave tour was cool as well.
Looking forward to this (http://advrider.com/styles/advrider_smilies/wings.gif)
I may be able to make it up for the ride Saturday morning...what time you guys plan on heading out?

9am...ish.....it's always a bit later.
BREAKFAST at 8am. :P
I've only been to the 2nd annual ride, but I loved the route last year. Since I'm on a bigger bike, I don't mind the highway ride to get to the good stuff. It was totally worth it IMO.

That sounds like a good idea, actually I'd gotten a suggestion of a "covered-bridge" street ride...Blount counties and whatever else could be sandwiched in there.
I think it was Mike Ashbaugh that suggested that ride. Y'all 2 get together and out the street riders together a good route. 8)

Alright, I will commit to leading the street ride on Saturday. It will be a Ride for Pie!

Now you have my interest and I'm checking my calendar.
I am really looking forward to this one and plan to ride up Friday around noon.
Is there any place to hang a hammock?

Hammock might be an issue..... How close do the trees need to be? I'll look around this evening and see just what we've got around.
Now that I think about it....We could probably hang hammocks down in our barn, couple hundred yards from the festivities, but it's an easy walk/ride....
I'll take a few pictures tonight and post'em up.
I think I am good for 15 to 20 feet.
It is just a lot easier to pack than the tent (and more comfortable)
Space is the main issue with my current setup.
Street ride is posted. Still working on exact route, but I have a pretty good idea of it.

We'll be scouting/pre-riding the route tomorrow. Leaving our house around 8am.
Even though the route hasn't been pinned down just yet, I have been doing some preparation.

To the HARD-CORE off-roaders....this ride is even more subtle than the Bankhead ride :-[, probably 85% paved roads ::)....I hate it, but it's all we've got without a LOOOONG ride up into Tenn. or riding Bankhead, AGAIN!!!!
This ride will have a few dirt-roads, some very narrow twisty paved roads, a short trail to a cool cave we'll stop at for a break and possibly a little spelunking, bring a flashlight. Also a trail leading out to Fort Bluff....they're cutting timber along the trail, the trail is much easier now, but the last 1/4 of it is as it's always been....This place has a fantastic view of the valley below.
We'll have one water crossing, wide and long....and I found out today that, even though we've had little rain lately, it's much, MUCH DEEPER than 2 years ago :o . Plus the road has gotten rougher than I ever remember it being...wish it was longer, only a couple of miles actually.
A couple of spots we stopped at 2 years ago are now blocked, posted "no trespassing" or the likes >:(.....we'll see what it looks like that morning.
Either way...it'll be a good day, with good folks... :)
This is all "Big bike friendly" we were 2-up on the Tenere today.

I will bring some sausage to throw on the grill! Conecuh or Brats???? hmmm life's tough decisions!
Fence, I have two pounds of Conecuh(frozen) that I bought and didn't use for Vintage. I was planning to take it to Melony, but I'm not sure I'll make it up there. I'm in B'ham. Maybe we can meet so I can give it to you to deliver??
Still looks like Friday afternoon is my departure. I may have to take you up on the offer to borrow a tent if hammock space is not viable.
The weather ain't lookingg pod for Saturday.....
Just floating, pun intended, the idea of possibly doing the ride on Sunday??
Everyone still come camp and all Saturday night....
Just a thought, I'm looking for feedback.
I'll keep y'all informed.
Dang! Camping in the rain! I wish I could make it.
I can move the street ride to Sunday, if necessary. We'll be riding some tight switchbacks and bumpy country roads, so I'd rather not have any accidents on my Pie Ride....
I generally try to avoid camping in the rain, unless it sneaks up on me. Good thing I live across the street. ;D
Should we bring canoes to sleep in instead of tents? :D
I'm still watching the weather. And may have to work Saturday morning.

I can do that for sure. Just let me know when you would like to "meat" (hahaha I crack myself up) I live in Homewood.
I'm going to wait till tomorrow but if it looks like there predicting today, I'm going have to pass, wet and cold just aint my cup of tea. :'(

I'm getting various weather predictions based on who I listen too.
They all say Sunday looks good, but I know some can't make a Sunday ride.
I'll just put it out there.......I'LL BE READY to cookout, campout, ride, eat drink and be merry.......Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday....
Just help me keep an eye on the weather. ???
I hate rain when I want to be outside. If this was a dirt ride, the rain would be great.
Street, not soo much.
Camping in rain, meh. that's why they make waterproof rain tarps.
I'm coming, you need me to bring anything?????? I prob won't camp, seeing that I live up the street, but I'll be there for the movie!! Want me to being young frankistine?
I never had time to get my rear tire but I'll be ok, I just hate these fracking trail wings
My plan is to still come in this afternoon hopefully leave bham by 2 or 3.
I will camp tonight under some redneck engineered lean-to shelter and if the ride happens tomorrow I will be ready. I dont have any rain gear so I will be wet but at least it won't be too cold!
Hope to see you guys out there as camping by oneself is not very fun.
HECK YEAH.......
Come ON !!!!!
I'm moving the street ride to Sunday.
However, I will be checking in on the festivities this evening and tomorrow....

We all know how accurate those weather guessers are :-\ I'll keep my options open for Saturday. I have to fly through this weather tonight. I'll see what things look like Saturday morning and check this thread.
I'm in for Sunday for sure.
Now I just have to decide between RFP or get all muddy.
You guys need to get here!

Nice bike
Just got home and it is pouring up here. Packing all my stuff to ride out in the morning. Will see how it goes, need 2 wheel therapy.
We're riding in the morning.....RAIN or SHINE......
It's a dual-sport ride, we don't need perfect conditions. 8)
I have your route, will meet you at the lunch spot. What time do you think you might be there?

The weather might not have been perfect but I had a good time.
What's it looking like down there for tonight's festivities?
.
Cold beer and sausage fest! Probably a movie or some football on the big screen!

We'll do it again next year. :o
What a fun weekend! The weather just made it more memorable!
I hope you guys save those sweet trophies for next year!
Thank you Al and Melony for your hospitality and all the time it took to prepare this ride!
Is that the sketchy bridge we rode over last year? The one where we almost had a man overboard?

OK....I'm FINALLY getting around to downloading my videos.....just a series of short vids.....
Headed out on a WET Saturday morning..
A MUDDY MESS
Here comes Winn.....with his outriggers down.
Well...Melony and I had just ridden the Tenere through this the week before, but the rain made us rethink crossing this...it would have been seat deep this day...NO THANKS.
This was the route around the swollen creek.
It was WET before lunch....COLD :o and WET after lunch....still better than sitting on the couch. 8)
