RFP = "Ride for Pie"
Why? Because pie fixes everything!
This is ride option #2 for Al's "Nowhere to Be, All Day to Get There" event (see link here (http://bamarides.com/ride/index.php?topic=46.0)).
This will be an all-street, family-friendly, obey-the-speed-limit, safety-conscious ride. We will visit some covered bridges, some scenic views, and some curvy country roads. No interstate.
Ride will start at 377 County Road 1286, Vinemont, AL about 9:00am-ish. We will leave right after the dual-sport group leaves. Recommend you get there about 8:00am to enjoy breakfast and friendly banter. Campers are welcome, or you can just show up Saturday morning for the ride. Lunch will be at a reasonably-priced barbecue joint, probably in Oneonta. I don't have the route finished yet, but we'll try to have lunch about 12:30pm, and try to be back at Al's place by 5:00pm. If you are camping, you can expect evening festivities, bonfire, movie, etc. It's gonna be a blast, so come join us!

P.S. - I buy the pie!
P.P.S. - Free stickers too!

Did the pre-ride this morning. 155 miles total, no interstate. There is a small portion of 4-lane highway, but most of the ride is 2-lane county and local roads. There is a nice mix of scenic vistas, valleys, rock escarpments, fall foilage, covered bridges, sweepers, switchbacks, etc. One of my goals for this ride was to approach the covered bridges from the back side and ride through, so nobody has to turn around in the road or on the side of the road. Using the back entrances makes for a beautiful ride, but we will have to deal with some rough pavement. All the more reason to take it slow and easy. After this ride, you'll have a new appreciation for the beauty of Blount County. GPX files attached, if anybody wants to load their GPS. Detailed track log below.

Rough schedule:
9:00-ish AM - Ride start
10:20 AM - Swann Bridge (stop 30)
11:05 AM - Easley Bridge
11:15 AM - Palisades Park (stop 30)
11:55 AM - Horton Mill Bridge
12:05 PM - Lunch & Gas (stop 90)
01:55 PM - Walker Gap
02:20 PM - Eagle Vision Cycles (stop 30)
03:00 PM - Tumlin Gap
03:30 PM - Snead Shell (stop 30)
04:30 PM - Ride End
I should be there, hopefully 2-up.
I don't wanna get off topic but I greatly appreciate the gpx files you've uploaded.
FYI, I click on it and open with "Moto map" app on my iPhone. For those occasions I don't wanna take the time to hook up my nuvi 550.
I'll let BR know "how it works" 😜
I can't figure out why when I import the gpx files it just has straight as the bird flies lines to 4 waypoints instead of the actual route.
Im using Garmin Basecamp.
I see the same results when importing into google maps as well. Attached screenshot
For "routes", my GPS program only exports the waypoints. Each waypoint is generally a turn.
For "tracks", it has a breadcrumb every 15 feet, but that is a larger file.
If you want to try the track file, it is attached.
Thank you. That helped. Im new to the GPS importing / creating trips etc. but I think that will work.
Watching the weather ....

Make sure you unit is set to "routes" and not "cross country" or some such. Cross country will take you as the crow flys. Routes will keep, you on the road.
Not looking good if what the weathermen are saying comes to pass...... and to think I took my only Saturday off to do this ride and it's gonna rain :'(
Okay, I'm moving the Ride for Pie to Sunday. Everything else remains the same. Breakfast at Goodwin's at 8AM. Ride starts around 9AM. Sorry for the change, but I hope you all can still make it.
Good call. We're still in. If we aren't there when you leave out, we will catch up.
I should be there.
we should be there .....
forgot son is leaving in the morning for Ft Smith, Ark.....don't think his momma is going to leave b4 her baby does..... :o
I got my mud fix today. I'll be there for some street riding in the morning.
I'll meet y'all at Swann Bridge.
We'll meet you at Swann Bridge also.
I will meet up at Swann Bridge also
Thanks for the sticker Glenn, and for the cake. Nice day to ride.
Had a great despite the lack of pie. I insist that you try again as soon as possible.
Big thanks to everybody who came out today! Too bad that the BBQ place had only cake, no pie. We'll definitely have a do-over soon.

Nice shots. Some will be stolen. 8)
Nice job on the ride Glenn, and on the pics Win.
