I picked up a barely used Tenere Saturday,the bike had 832 miles on it, the PO decided it wasn't for him.
More on that later...

Took the new wheels for about a 130 miles yesterday.
First 30 were to the courthouse to get a tag, out of state bikes need to have the Vin verified before they will issue a tag and title.
Rode the 10ish miles up the interstate first to get the tag, the bike rode like the suspension was locked up, beating me to death.
After I got the tag, I rode some backroads home, felt every seam in the pavement.
The PO had forgotten to bring the owner's manual with him when we meet up to do the handoff. When I got home I found a PDF of a euro market owner's manual, I assume the only difference was all the measurements were metric. Checked the suspension settings, and everything was set to almost the hardest settings. The PO was a big guy, 6'4'ish, but I didn't think he was any heavier than me. I returned everything to the settings according to the manual, took it for a brief ride, then returned home and set the shock preload and the compression settings on both the rear and front down a couple more clicks.
Rode much better, went out and rode about a 100 miles of little backroads, I'll still need to play with the settings, but it was pretty good on broken pavement, etc. No dirt yet. Don't want to get my new bike dirty ;-)
This thing has the flattest torque curve of any bike I have ever ridden, from idle to redline, it just pulls. No snatch, no lag, just goes. Pulls like a big electric motor, doesn't matter what gear, uphill, etc, just pulls.
My ride included a couple uphill's with hairpins, the kind that you enter at 15mph, climbs 10 feet during the turn. Most bikes you are either screaming in first, or lugging in second, slipping the clutch to keep from stalling. On the Tenere, it just pulled smoothly in second, threatening to lift the front wheel.
The PO put a taller windshield on it, not to wild about looking through it. He said he will send the stock one and few other items to me next week.
A few more tweaks, and I think this thing is a keeper.
Wow that's probably the first one sold on the "used" bike market. This one is on my short list. Please keep us posted on your experience with it!

Awesome, I have yet to see one in person. The engine gets rave reviews and is typical Yamaha reliable.
Hope it's a keeper for you.

I've yet to see one in person but it looks like they hit all the right marks. I'm really happy with my CB500x but wish it was a little lighter and had a real suspension. I'm in the process of taking care of that this month. Fingers crossed it goes well and that I don't get an opportunity to get close to one of these. Nice score!
Congratulations. That's a really cool ride. I'm looking forward to hearing more about the adventures to come.

I was kinda worried, I've never bought a new bike and thought I was gonna go into new territory.
I'd been thinkin' about one for a couple months, and told my wife there were a couple locally, according to Yamaha's locator. I was gonna call around last Monday, and as I was headed out the door for work, this one popped up over in the AdvRider market. Called the guy immediatly, made the deal, and set a time to meet him.
Congrats. I had a '15 FZ-07. Excellent engine. It was a nice bike, just too plastic and built to a budget to be a long term keeper.
Congrats. Keep us updated on your experiences/opinions on it.

I just picked mine up on Saturday. Love it. I'd love to plan or join some rides in the future.
@norton73, I grew up in Springvillle, live in Auburn now.

I'm afraid I'm not a local boy, moved here from MD in 2004. Nice place to live, don't miss shoveling snow one bit.
Might ride Talladaega Nat'l forest Sunday depending on weather. it'll be any easy ride, my friend, while a long time street rider, has very limited experience as an offroad rider. This will be his first offroad trip on his new to him F650GS.
installed the AXP plastic skid plate today.

Much bigger than the tin foil stock one;

A little fiddley to install, but I think I have a process now to remove and install in the future for oil changes.

I liked this one for several reasons,
Shock linkage protection
Water pump protection
Plastic shouldn't deflect motor noise upwards
Plastic shouldn't sound like hail on a tin roof when rocks hit it.
Plastic should slide over rocks better than aluminum.
As a long time whitewater kayak paddler, I've beat lots of plastic kayaks down some gnarly rivers, they have almost always held up fine, out of 15+ boats, only one has ever cracked.
Last week I installed a heavier rear shock spring,

Hopefully this one is better at supporting a healthy beer drinking male.
The PO sent the Owner's Manual and a couple windshields. One was the stock one.
The other was a short Sport Shield;

Saw this video about jacking up the bike. Apparently you have to be careful where you are jacking the bike.

Yeah, I'd been told about not lifting the bike by the rails.
I looked at how the rails are attached to the footpeg mounts, and that place where they bolt doesn't look that solid. Hard to see in my picture, but I have blocks of wood underneath the big part of the footpeg mounts supporting the bike.
I'm debating a centerstand. I kinda want to keep the bike light, but a centerstand would make maintenance easier.
Soooo.....you can bang the skid plate off of logs and rocks, but you can't jack the bike up using same skid plate?? What am I missing, help me out here. lol

after looking at how the side rails are bolted to the cast footpeg mounts, I have the same concerns.
Watch the video and you can see the cast parts sticking forward, they don't look that strong to me either. I'm wondering if anyone has actually broken one yet? The bike has been out in Europe for over a year, and I haven't read anything about it. I'd figure if it was an issue, someone would be offering a kit to reinforce it.
Some of the early BMW R1100 and 1150gS's had an issue with the footpeg/swingarm/transmission cast mounts breaking on bikes ridden hard offroad. Several companies offered fixes.
I go through the center stand conundrum on my bikes until oil change time then I usually get a center stand.
I don't ride hard enough off road for the skid plate attachment to concern me. But for those that log hop etc, it could be a concern.

I've got a couple PitBull stands knocking around, I can use one for oil changes.
I'm not planning on banging singletrack on this bike, I want to do rides such as the SM500 or a BDR and then be able to ride pavement to or back.
I just joined this group and found this thread. I was lucky and got mine back in June.
I'd like to know what you think about the spring. I'm looking to do the same upgrade (if my luggage racks ever come in). Is that a Racetec spring?
No, it's a Rally Raid Spring;
https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/rally-raid-products-shock-spring-p?v=17504
Unfortunately, I haven't had time to ride more than around the block with it. Hoping to ride some this weekend.
Anyone that wants to try before you buy, you can rent one for $175 for 8 hours at Little River Canyon.

Thanks for the heads up about the T7 rental. I just sent them an e-mail requesting more information.
I too have not seen one in person. The salesman at the local dealer here in Oxford, is not even aware this bike exists!
Trying one out before spending the money on a new one would be nice.

Just saw this on a local thread down here on ADV. Was about to cross post over here. Glad I checked before I 205'd you ;D
Worth the $$ IMO. I
might buy either a 790/890 or a T7 next year. And this would be a great way to rule out or justify the T7. Got to sit on, but not test ride, a 790 at Barber's last year. The cockpit and static weight felt amazing. But I do like the T7, just want to see how the weight feels.
My neighbor is on the list for a T7. Hopefully I will get a ride on it after he gets it and sorts it.
When I bought my Tenere, the PO had a tall MRA windshield on it. He was taller than me. I'm not a fan looking through a windshield, I prefer to look over it. He shipped the stock one to me, so I have the tall one for sale;
SOLD

Unfortunately, between work(sux), weather, and my joints paying the price for all my youthful and not so youthful indiscretions, I've barely been able to ride it since I installed the rear spring. Still haven't gotten it dirty yet.
A Synvisc shot and my knee is feeling better, hoping to sneak out some this afternoon.

Lynn and I rode over to Cheaha and around a bunch of backroads near Talladega this afternoon. I was looking for bumpy rough roads to play some with the suspension adjustments.

No weight saving there, but it's a lot more substantial, has a bigger foot, and is a better length.

Tenere vs KTM 890
https://magazine.cyclenews.com/i/1414541-cycle-news-2021-issue-39-september-28/84?
The KTM 890 seems to be a better bike than my 790, not seeing near the number of complaints on issues that should not happen on the 890. 2 front wheels and 3 sets of rotors and my front brake is still screwed and I have tried every panacea there is for it, I clean the rotors with a 3m pad every time I ride and it will be tolerable for a while. The simplicity of the T700 is a plus in my book, I never fool with all those menus, half the time I am in road mode on the dirt and in dirt mode on the road, and I have yet to fool with all those rally mode settings. I do like the quickshifter and cruise though.
Tenere available at Pinnacle motorsports;
https://www.tenere700.net/topic/4342-2021-t700-available-birmingham-al/
"I've had a deposit at Pinnacle Motorsports in Bessemer for 9 months. Dealer just called and said they have a 2021 on the way. It will be there in a week and I'm next in line. I have a $500 deposit on the bike, and I'm happy to buy it and resell it, but then the new owner ends up paying Alabama sales tax twice. Would rather transfer the deposit to someone, since I picked up a used T700 back in October.
So, if you are in the market, hit me up. I'll go with you to the dealer and transfer my spot and deposit to you. All I ask my deposit back ($500). The color is the blue 2021 version"

Steve and Dean at Allsport really went the extra mile to find me a blue 2022. They ended up driving to a dealership several hours away to get it for me. I brought it home yesterday.
I don't intend to go crazy with the farkles, but I had heard that the shock spring is a little soft (70 Nm) for big boys. So today I installed a Rally Raid 90Nm shock spring. While I was doing that, I also removed and greased all of the rear linkage bolts and the rear axle. All of the bolts were "bone dry" except the swing arm bolt. Set all of the suspension settings to their softest setting until it breaks in a little bit.

That blue color is awesome. I saw one on the Demo line at Barbers.
Congratulations on the new bike purchase.
I've been collecting some more farkles for it, but haven't had time to install any. Really don't want to add any weight either. For example, I have an OEM centerstand, the engine guards I got from Andy, some Tusk saddlebag racks, and a Camel ADV skid plate, all of which will add weight and none of which I really need at this moment.
But I will likely install a taller Puig touring windshield and some Helibar risers this weekend. And my RAM mounts.
Well, the Tenere left with it's new owner yesterday. She flew down from PA, I picked her up at the airport, we exchanged cash for a title, and she rode north.
She's planning on riding the MABDR as much as she can on the return trip. I gave her advise on places to avoid if it's raining and alternative routes and places she needs to stop and see.
Gonna miss that bike, had some adventures with it. Time to start making memories with the Himalayans and the V85TT.
