Title: Max Motorsports
Post by: klaviator on October 09, 2016, 07:32:34 PM
I ran into a guy at Vintage Fest who used to own Magic City Scooters and now works at Maxx Motorsports.  We talked a bit and he had some interesting info.  He said Maxx bought out Magic City scooters and are now a Kymco dealer.  He also said they would be picking up Vespa.  Of course they sell several brands of motorcycles.  I guess they either have moved to a new location and are having and open house/ grand opening on Nov 5th.  It might be worth checking out.  I may even ride down to check it out.  I'll see when it gets closer to that date.

Yes they have moved and it's a very nice dealership. It's not cramped like the previous shop. I really like stopping by there.

I rode up there Wednesday. It's a nice place with lots of inventory. I applaud their bravery to stock so much apparel, but think they'll end up being everyone's dressing room so they can get their proper size before they place their internet orders. I also wonder just how much of a market there will be for all those Husqvarna M/X bikes.

I'm glad you posted this.  It's been a long time since I have been in a motorcycle dealer that stocked a lot of gear.  If they have something that I really like then I'll buy it from them even if I can get it cheaper online.  I like being able to try on gear before buying because I really have a hard time finding stuff that fits.  If I can't make it to their open house I'll visit some other time.

I'd buy from Maxx before I'd order it online, not enough difference in price for me to not support a local shop that's as good as they are on, well, everything.

Max has a great selection and a great staff. They really treat riders/racers well with a good discount.

I am picking up a KTM Strider for my nephew this weekend. They were the same price as online and would much rather support local.

Highly recommend this shop!

I need to have a little recall work done on my V. Looking for a good Suzuki dealer around Tuscaloosa/Birmingham area. Any recommendations?

(I realize "good dealer" is an oxymoron. But it's a recall so I have to take it in. )

I don't have much personal experience with them but have heard good things about Max motorsports in Pelham.

As for "good dealer" being an oxymoron, I have to disagree.  There are some good dealers out there.  Allsport in Decatur is a good example but they are not a Suzuki dealer.

I agree. Allsport has been a great example of how to do it right. A lot of dealerships could take an example from them. I just wish Tuscaloosa had a dealer like that.

max is the only one around that I would recommend for anything, they just so happen to be a Suzuki dealer too.

Max Motorsports did the stator recall on my 2014 DL650.  Good service and no issues after the work was done.

Contacted Max on Saturday. Talked to a guy named Jarrod. Really helpful. Got my part ordered and should have it done before the end of the week. I hope it's as seamless as it sounds so far. Stay tuned........

I've been looking at that bike @merc16. But at near 32" seat height and still just another thumper, it doesn't give me more than I have...except that desireable 6th gear  ;D
Reported 115mph top speed, too. I read a review that said it thumps so bad, the mirrors are useless.

Tbh, I haven't read anything about them. Mainly, I don't need another bike that I want. Does the KTM 390 have the vibration also ?

I have ridden the 390. It was fun, but there was vibration but the owner fixed the issue. This bike had upgraded bars, weights and mirrors so it was not too noticeable. It was awesome to ride. It was right inbetween the z125 and the MT07 in physical size, so it felt great for me being 5ft8 and 155 lbs.

I rode down to Max Motorsports yesterday.  They have the best selection of scooters in the area, maybe the best in the state.

I went to check out the Kymco Like 150i which is the leading contender for my next small scooter.

They had one in red:

And white:

The salesman was helpful, seemed pretty knowledgeable and not pushy.

I also checked out the new Kymco 400.  This appears to be a great scooter and is priced way below the competition.  It's $5999 compared to around $8500 for the Burgman 400.  If I didn't already have a 400cc scooter then I'd be seriously looking at this one.....or maybe the Yamaha Xmax.

I'll be heading back down there sometime in the next few weeks.  They told me they would prep a Like150i and let me ride it if I let them know in advance.  Most likely if if the test ride goes well I'll take it home with me.  This scooter has basically the same motor as my Super 8 except it has a four valve head, fuel injection, and about 30% more horsepower.

They had one less when I left.  It was a pleasure doing business with them.

My new scooter is having some ABS issues so I dropped it off at max today.  While there I sat on what may be the ultimate bike for the super twisty roads I prefer.

Well, my suggestion would be...BUY IT! We only go around the block of life once you know.  ;)

Tried to zoom in on it....but no joy. What is it? Looks pretty sporty.  :)

Just looked back it's in reply #18

It is a Svartpilen 401.  It's a tiny bike but still comfortable for me and I'm 6-2.  I'm going to buy it.....................when I win the Lottery.  It's not that expensive but I can't just buy every bike that I like.

All the folks at Max Motorsports are knowledgeable and easy to work with. I can't imagine that there are too many people with more knowledge about all things scooter-related than Matthew. As mentioned earlier, Matthew was the owner of Magic City Motorscooters before moving to Max Motorsports. He has been (and will remain) my go-to for repairs and general maintenance many years. If you have a scooter or are looking for one, Max is the place to go. They are the only Vespa dealer in central Alabama.

I'm reasonably sure that the white Vespa (behind the red one) is the one I bought! (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190521/2dfd7c9cf945ff4b7aa9f2d276f8a39f.jpg)

Got in and out with a new front tire fast and felt like I was treated very fairly.
I would definitely visit them again.

I stopped at Max Motorsports today.  If you need a bike suitable for the Barber small bore this weekend they had two new Kymco Like150i's as well as two new Spades.

They also had a really nicely set up Honda 650 on the showroom floor.

After reading the codes and checking various things Mathew ended up replacing the battery.  Doesn't make sense to me but I rode 46 miles before deciding to take it home.  Time will tell if that fixed the problem.
