Heading up to Hollytree to check out the new single track.
The plan is to head up Saturday morning from Birmingham as early as possible to get to the park by 9am. We will ride the new technical trails, that they have just completed, all day and plan to camp out Saturday night on-site. I believe that they have some good double track to explore if anyone is not interested in the tight stuff!
http://www.hollytreeoffroad.com (http://www.hollytreeoffroad.com)
The price for admittance is a pretty big investment at $15 for 2 days and includes camping! Let me know if you need some info on second mortgages!
We are still trying to confirm if night rides are allowed and if so, we ride the dark!!
Sunday morning we can get up and ride some more before packing up and heading home!
We can plan some food for Saturday night and Sunday morning here and if anyone wants to meet up and travel together just let me know!
It should be a great weekend of riding some new technical trails or double track, pick your poison!!
Post up here if you plan to join up, and discuss plans for the weekend!
The store at Hollytree is closed, no food or gas. Gurley is closest food/fuel, 13 miles.
I live 5 miles from the park and may be able to get away for a few hours.
Fair warning -- if you get hurt, I'm the one that comes to scoop you up and throw you in Air Evac. If you need CPR, sorry, you're gonna die. :)
If you need tools or repair to bikes while here, I have a few tools to get you back going.
You picked a cold day to ride. High 45, low 26. I think I will skip on this one. I dont have a truck so I would be stuck riding in freezing cold to get there. I can marshmallow up on the V Strom, but a little harder to do on the dirt bike.
I am located in scottsboro. Not too far from hollytree. Holler if you need anything!

45C is too hawwwwt ! 26C is purrrrfect !
Just kidding. Actually mid 40's is about perfect for daytime hard enduro practice. you warm up PLENTY fast and stay warm all day. I'm planning to truck my dirty bike up and play, hopefully night ride with ma boys !
Who's down for some craziness ? :D
Hey David, I can bring your bike from Scottsboro to The Valley one day this week and store it for you til Saturday. You can drive over on Saturday and ride, then I'll deliver back the next week.
If I can get my parts in and installed, and get Saturday off. Dam, that's a lot of if's. ???

I hope you can make it! It looks like a sweet place!
A long edit from the legend Gary Barr taking a tour through some of the new stuff! This is going to be a workout fellas! If you are worried about coming out to this, so am I! It is going to be a test or our skills but I think as a group we can all gain some good experience in riding trails like this!!
Do they have any sissy trails for sissy riders who ride big type Adventure bikes and are to weak to pick them back up after...say 10 times?
Asking for a friend...
:D
It looks like they have some double track and jeep trails, I am unsure of the difficulty level of said trails.
It's been a year since I've bee to the park. Like David says, there's wide jeep trails you can ride. Some require a good hill climb to get up to them, but they are too rough going up. There's a large field where you can ride a dirt track where they do Autocross for cars.

looks like a trials bike would be a better choice, if anyone had one laying around
Maybe a trials bike with a seat would be about perfect!

It is gone... :( Fun while it lasted and helped with my skills...but my skills were not much. :(

Had to do a little fixing there /\ to get it more on target. ;)
Sent you a PM Johnny...
I am on a WR426F! I'm thinking I should be able to handle it. I have done some rough stuff on the WR.
Now I just need to find my riding armor. Seemed to misplace it...
What are you guys riding? (For those if you going)

I'll be on a YZ250

If I go, it will be on a Africa Twin.
There should be 3 levels of trails. There's bypass for some of the harder sections. (according to their FB page.)
Video of dirt training at Hollytree. Start at 5:50 to see hill climb.
Would this bring more interest if this were a day ride due to the cold camping temps? Which day Saturday or Sunday would you all prefer?
I think it's worth mentioning that no one has to camp, ride the difficult trails, night ride or anything else for that matter. Just show up and hang out, ride a little or ride a lot.
I'm thinking some grass tracking the rally cross course is going to be the bomb. Who's with me?
I agree with Mulley. If you have a dirt/ds bike, there is something for everyone at the park. Everything from a big flat field to learn how to ride to the hardest single track you've ever ridden. Come ride 5 minutes or all weekend.
Great point guys! I guess I didn't make it clear that we plan to do a good bit of shooting of the shit while we are there!
I have updated the first post with some info!
I plan to be at Hollytree. I'm not sure if I'll be riding, but I do want to get some pics and video.
I'm only about 5 miles away, so if anyone needs repairs, I have tools you can borrow.
Here's a video from the race they had there about 2 years ago. I'm not sure how much of this is part of the trails cut. You can see the open field. When he crosses the road, he's in the area of the easy trails that have been cut. Racing starts at 0:33. http://www.motorcyclealabama.com/rides/index.php?topic=767.msg6047#msg6047
Who's ready for some night riding?(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171207/bd489260727dc15c248b93130e593711.jpg)
Who can bring some firewood? I'll help pay for it.

I have about half a cord you can have, but it is old and maybe dry. Plus you have to haul it up the "cliff" that is my back yard. I do have a wheelbarrow you can borrow. I'll be home by 3:30 today. Remlap area.

is there any firewood for sale up there.? it would be great if we could grab a load after unloading bikes!
I'm cutting some trees down at my house tomorrow. Yall are welcome to all you want. I may have some that's been cut and is seasoned to get the fire started. How much do you want?

just one night's worth, I guess a quarter truck bed, whatever that works out to in furlongs or cubits ?
I will be bringing at least a Nissan Frontier half bed full! Should be enough for 1 night!

Going to be a cold night...y'all going to take shifts in keeping the home fire burning? :D
Currently looking into ways to add a fireplace into a tent! I'll let y'all know what I find!
So it looks like there is going to be a Rallycross Sunday! This should provide some entertainment!
Low Sunday morning is 22 deg around 6 am.

But the high on Saturday is now predicted to be 47. That's better than the 42 in an earlier forecast. ;D
Now that is the kind of optimism I like to see!
I am heading to cycle gear tomorrow to pick up some Freeze Out glove liners! Post up here if you want me to pick up something for you!!

And the sun will be shining. Looks like a good day to ride. I'm hoping I can manage to ride a little.
You guys coming from Bham, I-65 is the quickest, but coming though Guntersville on Hwy 79 is a nice drive and only 5 minutes longer.
Just remember "the weather outside is weather!" Let's Ride!
Thanks to johnny being a great person, I will be there Saturday as well!
What is on the menu for foods? Hollytree is 25 minutes from gurley, which I believe is the closest gas, food, and grocery. Is that right johnny?
Are we cooking over the campfire? Someone bringing a grill? Picking up food from Hardees(your only option)?

I plan to bring some sausage and a big fork to cook over the fire. I should have a couple extra. I will be bringing a camp stove (not a grill) to cook some eggs and bacon for breakfast burritos Sunday if you decide to camp.
Saturday lunch will probably be tuna packets and tortillas!

Gurley is about 15 miles from the park. 15 minutes on my Harley.
Gurley has an Auto Zone, 3 gas stations/stores, Piggly Wiggly, Dollar General, Hardees, Subway and a decent Mexican restaurant. Joe's Pizza is about 17 miles(Woodville area) from the park and they have really good food, but only 2 tables. Best to do take out from there.
If yall need a grill, I can bring mine for you.
Thanks johnny. Forgot about subway and didnt know about Mexican.
Ok, we don't want to go anywhere for lunch. Thats prime riding time. It'll be warmer and the sun is out, so lets plan to eat whatever we have there for lunch. I will probably grab a sub that morning on my way and eat it for lunch.
I'd vote to go eat for dinner. Perhaps the Mexican place? We will figure something out. Play it by ear!
Sent from my VS995 using Tapatalk
We ate at that Mexican place a few years ago after a day of cold dual sport riding in the area. It was pretty good. If you guys want to eat there we could set up a flash mob and maybe get a few other people to show up.
I'll be there for sure tomorrow morning. (I'll meet y all put there around 9) cant stay to camp but will ride most of Saturday. And whoever has that other Africa twin we need to go ride some time! I'm taking my YZ250 to hollytree though. I wanna try the gnarly stuff.

That would be me. Looking forward to it!
Sort of "up in the air" for me about making it to the ride tomorrow.
Really hoping to make to Jacks by 6 am but with the roads it may get pushed a little. I will keep y'all posted!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171208/7049583629cf9598355a628c5aec9a46.jpg)
Made it to Jack's, hitting the road at 6:30 and cruisin up 65. See y'all up there!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171209/cbbb6348dbba336a0a42f35420e06605.jpg)
This was fun guys. My 426 was quite a bit to throw around but I lasted for a few hours. I'm already sore! I think I am going to avoid single track on this bike lol.
Sent from my VS995 using Tapatalk
Don't let Hollytree keep you from single track! Even those "easy" trails are harder than anything at most places! You did good and had the right attitude about it! It was definitely a fun day and I think we will all be hurting a little the next couple of days!
I have ridden single track on my KLR. There is easy single track out there.
Ok let me re phrase that. I am going to avoid the advanced stuff that is made more for 250s and 300s.
I did have a good time! And I appreciate you guys waiting around on me.
I want to see some video footage... Especially of when I sent my WR over a log and parked it perfectly on a tree!

not giving up or giving in was the key, and you held onto to that key fine. it was impressive to set such a high power machine being controlled in such rough terrain.
we'll be out there again and you'll be Jonesing for the big rocks !
