I totally agree. Hopefully the production model is close to this prototype and it sell in huge numbers.

FYI Ducati has a new Scrambler 1100 version that was just released. It's air cooled and not even in the same league as the Indian. I never thought I would say that.

I'll believe it when I see it.

I have not forgotten the Octane....

Read the articles and comments from folks at Indian carefully. They do a good job of making you think it will look like that FTR1200 Custom bike, but not be that bike. "Inspired by" is the key phrase. That could be anything.

Nothing against the Scout, but the few times I've ridden one it's felt very "meh". Actually, I'd use that to describe every Indian I've ever ridden. Nice enough, not for me. Something about them just doesn't click.

I was excited for the Octane. We all know how that turned out...

I'm excited for the FTR. Done right this will be a hell of a motorcycle. Here's hoping it's not another Scout with different ergos

Well, it is really NOT Indian...they went under 1953. Since then there have been a few "come backs"  that went under sorta quickly.
Polaris has some bucks so I think it might take awhile but this "branding" will wind up like all the rest...in the "dust bin" of history.
My dad, at one time, actually had a real Indian Chief and a Harley Davidson Knucklehead, both bought brand new. He sold them both a few years after he came back from the Korean Conflict. (A rebranding of a war really)

Polaris makes a good 4x4 and, with the Victory brand, has shown it can make a good motorcycle. Just to bad they ditched the Victory line.
This motorcycle would have been a good addition to the Victory line.

But for me, it is just another fake Indian relying on a fake connection to a brand that has been long gone. Sorry, but that is what I think.

Never cared to much for Polaris...like I said, the Victory line was some pretty good motorcycles. A motorcycle like this would have done good to the Victory line.

Indian has shown the first indication of what the FTR1200 may look like in a patent application.

Trellis frame withe engine as a stressed member. Could they actually bring out a bike that really is a close relative to the race bike without bulking it up like HD did with the XR1200R?

Sorry, Springer.

You are right, and they did. Everyone who owned one worked on getting pounds shaved off.

BTW /\ THAT is not an Indian. My dad owned a 1949 Indian Chief, now that was a real Indian. What it IS, is a Polaris, as simple as that. Everybody and their mother has used the "Indian" brand. Indian went out of business in 1953.  They shut the doors and went kaput.

I maybe would consider 1 IF Polaris would just call it what it is...a Polaris.

But no, they gotta get pretend "cred" and drag the Indian name out yet again.

I could change my name to John Homes, but I still wouldn't be a BIG porn star ya know?  :D

:D

The current owners of Norton are doing the same thing, the new 961 Norton bears no relationship to the original Norton company founded by "Pa" Norton.

Claiming to be the same company and all the heritage is BS.

The FTR750 flat track race bike was designed in Switzerland, nothing Springfield Mass about it.

American Flat Track during the races keeps pushing the old Indian vs HD line, Indian even calls the race team the "Wrecking crew".

It's all PR BS, but it's still a cool bike if they can actually build it.

No doubt it. Lets hope they can keep the weight down. Tubeless wire rims would be good too.

Even if it's not a "real Indian," you could slap a Polaris badge on the tank and I'd still say that's a sexy bike.  Doesn't quite suit my current needs in a street bike, but a coworker that lives in Florida is supposed to be picking up some lotto tickets for me today.  So there is a chance...

You know, loose the bulky stock exhaust then replace with a slimmer high routed 2 into 1, do something, what I have no idea, with the bulky ugly radiator, then loose the rear fender tire huger, and put a tail tidy thingy for the plate, stoplight, and that would be a pretty good looking motorcycle.  ;) Really not that much work for a new stock bike.  ;)

518lbs full of fuel.  New exhaust and some other things like Springer mentioned, and I'm sure you could get it under 510.  Definitely could be a fun bike.

Cycle World rides it.  https://www.cycleworld.com/2019-indian-ftr-1200-is-here

120bhp and around 500lbs so it is properly quick.  Minimal seat looks to me like it is a short ride bike.  I bet it's fun though.

Minimal seat? Any bigger and it would look out of place, I think so in many ways.
For me it is not the size of the seat that matters. It is how it seats you. Firm foam, not to soft, not to hard. Of course that will depend on the weight of the rider. For that I look to the aftermarket if I can not get use to it. The stock seat on the XR1200R I had was not right. Got some of the foam from Seat Concepts that they used on my Honda XL650L. Took the seat cover off, trimmed the foam to the same shape, glued it back on, and recovered.
I could and did do many 800+ miles on it.

Of course I never have had a stock motorcycle for long. Something always wound up changed.  ;)

My only problem with the bike is the Indian name, but I have already went over that.

It should be called the Native American FTR 1200.
