Title: EICMA 2018
Post by: Nice Goat on November 05, 2018, 08:19:02 AM
EICMA starts tonight!  Post your favorite bits here.

I'm watching for the KTM 790 Adventure and the Yamaha Tenere 700.

Well, the Yamaha Tenere 700 isn't making it to the US until late 2020 as a 2021 model.

Yamaha really dropped the ball on this one. It used to be the Euro manufacturers showed an exciting new bike and then took years to actually build it for production. This time around KTM is gonna have a bike out and by the time Yamaha brings it's bike out, everyone will have bought the KTM and Yamaha will wonder where all the buyers went.

Then they'll drop it from the line-up after a couple of years and blame fickle North American buyers for it's failure.

Their Marketing Research department will tell them that if they make an 890 and add 10 unnecessary HP, then everyone would want one.  Even though nobody is actually asking for it!!!

Yamaha Tenere 700 is 450lbs! Just another overweight adventure bike. Which is ok if that's what you want, not really a game changer. KTM release is on Tuesday. My guess is that the 790 will be lighter. But by how much?

Huge disappointment on the Tenere 700 release date, but it is an amazing looking machine.

The XSR 700 Scrambler looks nice.

So does the XMax 300 Iron edition.

Why Yamaha won't sell the Tenere 700;

"Much has been said about this machine already, so here are the basics to cutdown on the chatter: 94hp (70 kW), 65 lbs•ft (88 Nm) of torque, 5.3 gallons (20 liters) of fuel, 448 lbs wet with fuel."

I hope that headlight fixture doesn't bobble around.

It does look like a misfitted prosthetic that would snap off the first time I drop the bike.

The "R" has a high front fender and cruise control is an option.

I'd bet there's a pretty solid metal support under that plastic holding the instruments and lights. KTM has built a few offroad bikes before and knows what works.

KTM has never faced the Chitza effect and my uncanny ability to get in the craziest predicaments 🤣

Cripes!  :(

Anyone interested in a like-new Africa Twin? It only weight almost 100 lbs. more and has a couple less h.p. than the 790.

I imagine that you are correct, sir.

The "R" model is really the only offering that interests me right now.

I rode a 1090R at Barber, just for kicks.

I'd be upset if I had run out and bought a 1090 and then this came out.

I'm thinking the 790 is a little low on the suspension, but it would be to high a seat height if it had more so then I could complain about that. Really is a nice looking bike though. I'm sure the headlight is fine, but as Mentioned it's not confidence inspiring.

I'm thinking this class of bike is as close as you will ever get to the perfect do it all.
