Title: N. AL / TN Street ride Sat 8-10-19
Post by: klaviator on August 07, 2019, 09:38:38 AM
I'm going to ride Paint Rock Valley, up to Sewannee, Crow mountain and some other nice roads on Saturday.  If you want to join me:

Place :  Mapco on 72 in Gurley

Time:  8 AM.  KSU by 8:15

This won't be a super long ride.  We should finish up by mid afternoon.  Forecast is around 90 but only 20% chance of rain.

I should be in! Getting new shoes put on my V Strom so that'll be a nice ride on new shoes.
Also adding silencers to my exhaust to quiet it down.

We had 5 bikes and riders meet at the Mapco in Gurley this morning.  2 from Huntsville, One from Scottsboro and 2 all the way from the Birmingham area.

We rode 65 through Paint rock valley into TN and then back roads into Lynchburg.  We stopped in the Diamond Gusset Jean Store.  Then we rode to Cowan where se stopped at the old gas station.

Then it was up to Sewanee where we had lunch at Shenanigans.

We had some good conversation at lunch.  Mojo told us that he rode his FZ1 in some pretty improbable places for a street bike.  I don't think he thought we believed him because....well I'll get to that later ;)

After lunch we rode some more twisty roads including 39 up Crow mountain.  I love that road but it was it wet and had some wet leaves on it so we had to go slow :-[

We stopped at the gas station in Skyline where David split off and headed home.  The rest of us took 17 and then CR8.  When we got to the bottom of the mountain on 8 I noticed only one headlight behind me ???

Oh Oh!

We back up the mountain where we found Rich and Mojo parked in the dirt off the side of the road.  Apparently Mojo wanted to impress us with how well his FZ1 handled off road so he took it MXing over some whoops and then when he saw he was approaching a cliff he just slid it sideways stopping just inches short of going over!!!

No he didn't drop it.  Next time Mojo tells you abut riding his FZ1 off road you better believe him 8)

Then we rode back to Gurley where we talked a bit, said our goodbyes and headed for home.

Lee, David, Rich and Greg, thanks for coming and riding with me.  I could ride this ride almost any day by myself but it's a lot more fun with friends.

Hope to see ya'll on another ride soon.

Just got home. Had a good time today, thanks Win. I didn't keep up with my mileage but it was about 260 miles just to and from the ride.
