Title: The Mighty DR650 and a date with 100,000 miles
Post by: Moto Guzzi on October 18, 2020, 07:37:46 PM
I've owned my 2007 DR 650 since new, bought it in May of 2007 from Smith Brothers of Birmingham when they had their shop in Trussville.  Today I took it on a memorable ride.

Start of the day

I rode through one of my favorite nearby places, Turkey Creek Nature Preserve

Next up was a stop at the tunnel on Comer Dairy Rd

Followed up with a stop at Higginbotham's Lake

And an old general store in Locust Fork

Getting closer to that magical number

Next stop was at the Garden City River Park

I then headed up to Dodge City to ride County Road 565

Then down US31 and over County Road 26 to Blountsville, where the magic happened!

Did you have any issues with it over the 100K?  I seen a few on the forums at 70K but most needed a rebuild.

I guess you could sell it as a low mileage 2007 now.   ;D

Nothing other than usual maintenance items and a leaky gasket here and there.

Congrats. Now where is you 100,000 mile patch.   ;)

The most I ever made it on a bike is 60,000 miles before trading it off for something new.

It's impressive that you rode it that far but I'm truly amazed that a single cylinder engine can function for that long with no mechanical issues. Well done Suzuki engineers, well done.

How long do you plan to go before changing out the piston and inspecting the valves?

Nice report! I love a DR and will probably get another one once the R1200 becomes too unwieldy.

Where is Higginbotham's Lake?

Thx,

Frank (Higginbotham)   :)

DR is a good choice. I will have another one at some point.

The lake is on Marsh Mountain Cutoff in Pinson.
