Title: March Moto Madness 2021
Post by: Al Goodwin on October 29, 2020, 02:49:37 PM
March 25-28th.

Let's get a group to head up for that weekend, or at least discuss it between now and then.

Melony and I have stayed over where the rally is held one year, and we really prefer Cherohala Mountain Trails Campground.  I was fun being close to the action, so to speak, but there were definite negatives as well.

If one like they can still participate in the planned activities at the rally, we'll just not be staying there.

I went last year and stayed at CMTC.  I didn't actually attend the rally, just spent the weekend riding.  If nothing gets in the way I'll be there next year.

I'm off work that Thursday thru Sunday....

Melony and I will head out Thursday morning and stay all weekend.  I'm not sure if we'll haul the KLR up or just pack up the Tenere and ride it up, and all around, for the weekend.  Melony said it depends on the weather.....I told her it won't be the first time we rode in the rain one day, snow the next, and then 80 degrees on the way home...LOL

We all know the weather in March is quite unpredictable.

March Moto Madness has been officially CANCELLED

However, Melony and I will be in Tellico the last weekend of March riding the area.  Probably staying at Cherohala Mountain Trails campground....depends on how well Melonys back continues to heal.  We'll be in Tellico, cabin or camping.

I really don't care about the event.  I'm there to ride.  If the weather is decent I plan on being there.  I'll be staying a CMTC as well.

We were out riding in Wheeler yesterday and stopped and talked to some guys on adventure bikes.  One of them said they would be at CMTC at the end of March and were expecting about 40 people there.  He also said he knew Al Goodwin.  They were planning a big fish fry on one of the nights.

So there will be a big crowd there that weekend.  I think a lot of people who were planning on attending March moto madness will be there even though the event has been cancelled.

FISH FRY....WHOOP WHOOP

So far it's just Melony and I 2-up on the Tenere, and a friend of our riding a new, just last week, GS Adventure.....

Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at Tellico, may ride up to Cruso on Sunday, stay there Sunday night.

I'm trying to recover from a nasty cold.  Between that and the Iffy weather forecast I haven't decided yet.

The iffy weather hasn't helped my cause much either. I have to travel Monday through Thursday next week anyway. Let's pick a makeup weekend.

Yeah, the weather is going to be terrible, but Melony and I are headed that way Thursday.

We'll be trailering our bike up, since Thursday seems to be the worst o the weather.  Maybe we can get some riding in on Friday or Saturday....

I'm a bit disappointed in myself, trailering a bike....geez Louise....am I getting old, or smarter??

I'll wait until Thursday morning to decide.  This cold I've had over a week is slowly getting better but I don't have much energy so I doubt I'll make it.

Make up weekend?

I could probably make it the following weekend but that is Easter weekend.  The weekend after that is Dualsporting the Freestate.

I would consider a few days during the week sometime if some of you would be interested in that.  Or maybe sometime in May.

I also expect to be going to Tellico for the Monkees and Minis event 6-8 May.

I'm out.  I'm still sick and I wouldn't be up for a weekend of camping and riding even if the weather forecast was better, which it isn't.

So, did anyone go?  It looks like there might have been some dry weather to ride in.  I'm still not completely over my cold so I'm glad I didn't go.

I went. Not for MMM but I stayed at a friend of a friend's house in Tellico Plains Wed evening through Sunday morning.

We rode Thursday early before the storms. Got wet but had a great time. Around 75 miles and was back by noon.

Friday was perfect for "hard" dualsporting. We did some great stuff that requires local knowledge as well as some well known dirt/gravel and back roads. Around 160 miles worth, even stopped in Andrews, NC to change some busted wheel bearings. We got real lucky that Carquest stocks KTM bearings.

Saturday we almost threw in the towel but after breakfast decided to ride in the rain anyway. Got in 90 miles worth of mostly easy stuff and trail 82.

There were very few motorcycles in town. No other motorcyclists at restaurants for dinner. It was all very strange but I had a blast.

I didn't take a single picture. I stole these from Facebook.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210404/700db634e1c25bca1fb9b75f4483257c.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210404/c3523a6261957184723ad9012f66a0a4.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210404/4c748d27f34429adc2ae630d780ec75f.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210404/ead6a504306e59887090275a2af5974b.jpg)

Melony and I trailered our bike up Thursday, through all the storms.

We had a great day riding Friday, a bit over 300 miles, we stuck to the paved roads this time.

Saturday morning brought more all day long rain.,..so, we slept in, and just hang out at the campground.  Several there did head out riding Saturday, needless to say they all got SOAKED.

We had planned on staying in Suches Sunday night, but, once again, rain Sunday morning so we decided to just come on home.
