Did you cross it? I've only seen it that low a couple of times.

No I didn't cross over. The north side is being developed into a park. A major road improvement has been in place from Hwy 13 to the river. Google shows some building completion presumably for a caretaker (Ranger?). Here's a somewhat dated article including mention of motorized access on the south side  ;D

Not as glamorous as all the cool photos from Colorado, but I was able to do some riding over the Labor Day weekend with @BKStewart and @kdtrull.

My Labor Day weekend travels were in Blount County, Northwest Alabama and South Central Tennessee.

I rode on Friday afternoon with @BKStewart. He took me on a tour of Blount County.  We started off with Easley Bridge located near Rosa, AL:

Next is Horton Mill Bridge near Oneonta, AL:

Swann Bridge near Hayden, AL:

We checked out Palisades Park in Oneonta.  Very nice area that sits atop a rocky bluff overlooking the valley below:

The Locust Fork meanders all through Blount County.  This is Taylor Ford Road crossing of the Locust Fork.  You can see where the road (trail) continues across the water in the background behind my bike:

On Sunday, I rode with @kdtrull around Northwest Alabama and South Central Tennessee.  This was a cool little replica grist mill someone had constructed on their property near Good Springs community in Tennessee.  Although the wheel was functional and driven by water, it was purely for cosmetic reasons. The interior of the small structure was decorated with antique items and tools:

A firetower located near Good Springs. I remember seeing these frequently when I was a young fella:

We meandered around backroads and trails to a location called Milky Way Farms.  This property is outside of Pulaski, TN.  It is the former estate of Franklin Mars, founder of Mars Candies (Milky Way, Snickers, M&M's).  It was a 2800 acres estate, purchased in 1930.  Construction peaked between 1931 and 1933. With 800 workers during construction, Milky Way Farm became the largest employer in Giles County. During construction, many of the workers lived on the farm with their families and the houses are still there.  The Manor House is 25,000 sq. ft, 21 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms.  It also was a large horse farm with several building for showing/raising horses.  They owned a Kentucky Derby winner at one time.  BEAUTIFUL area with rolling hills/pastures.  They rent out the buildings for events and have horse rides there often.  This the Manor House:

We made our final photo stop at the Natchez Trace Parkway Bridge crossing the Tennessee River.  This is located Northwest of Florence, AL.

I love finding new dirt roads!

If success was measured in the number of wooden bridges, Then I had a good day! I think I crossed six total.

I hosted a ride up in the mountains near my house this weekend. Had a mix of Bama riders and GA riders join. Much fun was had both in the dirt, on the pavement (dank woolies!) and around the campfire.

Johnson Cemetery Fayette County. Very oddly shaped head stones and the large flat stones covering the graves are pretty rare. This one was from the 1870's.

These were done in a different style.

This person was named "Bama", by the dates I'm guessing the name doesn't have anything to do with football.

Deavours Hill road. I wish there were more of it.

Big beech tree.

My map showed this being the road, I guess you ride accoss the spillway. I failed to get a picture of the big lake to the right.

Yep, the road kept going.

Bacon! Somebody's hogs got loose.

While trying to get around some bridge construction, I found another cemetery. With more of the large flat stones covering the graves.

A close up of the large white tombstone. Claims to be a general.

I'm not sure what army he was a general in. Anybody know what all this stuff means? That eye is kinda creepy!

Still a little color on the trees.

Red Clay makes a fine dirt road!
