The fiancé and I want to go on a nice night ride tonight since next week doesn't look so good for us. The problem is he wants me to plan the route and I know very little about the roads here in Alabama. I've been up and down many roads here in Oneonta and Springville, so things are getting a little stale to me. I've driven Hwy 11, Old Springville Road, 231(that was a nerve fest), the road by Appalachian High, through the four-way in Springville to Ashville, past Walmart in Oneonta, past the turn off for Walmart in Springville, etc.

I'm looking for suggestions on quiet roads away from general traffic. He won't be home until rush hour tonight, and I'm not entirely sure which roads to avoid due to moderate/heavy traffic, and which roads will be quiet and calm enough for a nice ride. We do plan on riding for a few hours tonight, so hit me with any and all suggestions!

Add or subtract to/from route as needed.

I'd be happy to come over and lead a ride this evening, but looks like rain chances go to 50% at 5p.  :)
How interesting. Weather chances are 0% here until 3am. The weather here never knows what to do, it seems. Haha.

But thanks for this! Looks like a fun ride and I don't think I've gone down some of these places yet!

Just checked a different weather app and that's what it's showing now...no rain until 3a.

Alabama weather...don't like it? Just wait a few hours, or check another weather source, until you get the weather you want.  :D

And it's hard to find any bad backroads in the Blount/St. Clair area.

Ah, good ol' Alabama. Even the meteorologists and weather apps can only make their best guess.

I've been on lots of good roads out here. The problem is, I don't know my way around very well despite living out here for 4 years now. I can get to places I've been to several times as far as Trussville, but that's about it. Up until recently, I never had the time to just get out and explore. Hopefully changing that up this summer! Especially once I get rid of this impractical Miata and don't have such a high car payment!

Sometimes the best way to find new roads is to just go out and get lost.

The other way is to join some rides on this forum and follow someone who knows where they are going.

Both of these have worked well for me in the 6 years I've been here.  There will be more rides to choose from as the weather gets warmer.

That's the plan when the weather warms up and we have more daylight! (I have pretty bad night blindness, so we try to avoid night riding when possible).

I've been keeping an eye on the scheduled rides and whatnot, but with my schedule and my fiancé's schedule to work around, it's hard to take super long trips that are far from home.
