Title: Drilling and cutting chrome ?
Post by: sctparker on November 26, 2016, 04:45:58 PM
In a attempt to make something work on my bike that wasn't intended for it, I need to drill and cut some chrome plated billet aluminum . Has anyone done this without messing up the chrome or it peeling afterwards? I've shaved/cut bumpers   but never worried about the chrome peeling since they were re-chromed or painted when I was done.

I think I would put some masking tape over the spot you want to drill. Also use a center punch to make sure the drill doesn't wander.
Never tried this with chrome, but it has worked with painted items. Your result may vary...

Use a pointed stone to grind through the chrome plating and then drill the aluminum.

This is how I've always done it.
