Title: Today I learned...
Post by: bblass on March 16, 2018, 04:11:58 PM
Today I learned that if you have an iPhone and hit the side button 5x in a row it sends an SOS to emergency services. It also sends a notification that you're in dire straits to your emergency contact.

I learned the first part when 911 called me as I was stuck in traffic on I65. I learned the second part when my pregnant wife called me in panicked hysterics.

Best I can tell, it was just the way my phone was sitting in my jacket. Either way, good thing to know.

Another fun fact, even when a phone is deactivated, you can still dial 9-1-1 and it will go to the closest dispatch center.

In Baldwin Co. alone the dispatchers receive 200+ butt dials a day. in your area you were only one of several hundred.

A lot of phones if you hold the "9" for a few seconds it will dial 9-1-1.

That's pretty neat. Hand your phone to the average 5-13 year old and be amazed at all the crap you didn't know about.

And they didn't know either until ten seconds after being handed that phone.

I'm just glad you are still alive to talk about it! Pregnant wives show no mercy!
