Title: Should i buy this spare engine?
Post by: David DoubleEX on April 21, 2018, 09:15:42 PM
So I have a 2002 yamaha WR426. The engine seems to be fine, i haven't had any issues. BUT.

Someone from a facebook offroad group has offered me a yz426 engine for 300 bucks. He said "it needs a big end bearing and piston."

Now i don't think I want to fix it and swap my engine but I believe a lot of the parts are the same. It sounds like not a bad idea to have that many parts on hand; but their condition is unknown. What do you guys think?

if that stator and clutch basket are worth it to you, sure.

the rest of it probably has trashed by whatever took out the bearings

it's not hard to rebuild them, then resell for double what you paid

My 15 year experience with a '99 WR400F was pretty good. At one point, I bought spare clutch plates. Never needed them. Though there were years it didn't get ridden much, I really enjoyed that bike. I so want a WR450R!

The summer ('17) I was out with the 690ER, I crossed paths with the former WR. It was moment. I only kept the new 690ER for eight months.
