Title: Ralley in the Valley IV
Post by: jrobinson on August 12, 2016, 04:13:52 PM
It's time for The Ralley in the Valley IV. This is your chance to come hangout with all the cool kids on Bama Rides.

So get your bikes ready, put in for time off, get your kitchen passes and prepare for a weekend of good eats & great riding.

On Saturday we will have a street ride and a Dual Sport bike ride.  Any style bike will be welcomed on either ride, but the dual sport may be a little much for an adventure bike.

I'll be around on Friday if you want to get in an early ride.

What ---- Ride, camp, eat, sit around the bonfire and tell tall stories. Repeat. You are welcome to participate in any or all of the weekend's festivities.

Where ---- Camping - At the former Chapman House B&B(Hwy 65 in Princeton, Al). There's 5 acres to camp, watch the bonfire and park.

Riding ----- Street Ride - Roads of Northeast Alabama and parts of Tennessee.
Dual Sport Ride - There will be a Dual Sport ride. (Route still to be determined)
Off Road - There are some off road riding areas I can point out for you.

When ---- Sept. 9-11 (Friday, Saturday & Sunday).

Cost ---- be a member of Bamarides.

I need to get a head count. Let me know when you will be at camp and which ride you plan to participate in.

We will have Dinner ride to Mexican restaurant in Gurley Friday night and cookout Saturday night, Breakfast Saturday and Sunday.

If you want to ride over and eat without camping, that's OK too.

I'll have my wife Sandy throw something together for breakfast and there will be dogs and burgers on the grill at night.
I'll need a head count for food and refreshments. I'll provide the soft stuff. Jackson Co is a dry county so you will need to bring the hard stuff with you.
We have 2 showers in the house you are welcome to use, bring towels and soap that you will need.

This is a great place for tents, not enough trees for hammocks. There's a couple couches and plenty of floor space if you want to sleep in the house.

To see pics and videos from last year's event ----->  http://bamarides.com/ride/index.php?topic=4.0

We have plenty of room for parking and camping...

This is one well-sorted, something-for-everybody event.  And, it happens to be in one of the prettiest areas of the whole state.

I'm in.  See you Friday 09-09.  Dual Sport

We're in. I've secured my old XR650 as a backup in case I can't get my KTM back together in time.

Okay, little change of plans.  We are going to Tellico on the 1st to the 5th and then head to the Ralley in the Valley.  Will have the camper and bike.

Just means a week off of work (really hate that  :o  LOL).

I gotta work Friday night but I'll be there Saturday morning.  Unless I find some time to work on my KLR between now and then (unlikely) I'll be doing the street ride.  I'll stick around for dinner Sat night and probably camp that night.

Does anyone going on the dual sport ride have a big issue with having to bring lunch with you Saturday? We may go where there's no lunch stop.

No, and that may determine whether or not I flip-flop on the DS vs. road ride!

So would a zrx make it on the dual sport ride? She's lighter than a BMW adv bike and doesn't mind diet roads in the least. .... Heehe

I don't think we will be riding any diet roads no matter how light your bike is.. Ask Kenneth about the hill from last year for a zrx.

How much of the dual sport will be on roads and at what speeds? I just got my tagged 250 back together and really wanting to stretch her legs soon.

Thanks!

Griff is leading the DS ride again this year. He has a couple different ideas for a route this year. It will depend on the number of dual sports that show up.

Usually the speeds are around 55-60 on hwy and 20-60 miles one to the dirt part.

Griff will chime in and hopefully give you a better idea.

We have an off-road park 7 miles from the camp site. It's 10 bucks and they have a little bit of everything for bikes, atv and rockcrawlers.

For the dual sport ride, our options depend on how many and what kind of bikes show up. Don't worry about being able to do it on a 250. My wife will be riding her crf230L. No interstate on the ride. We may do a few miles of 4 lane but I try to avoid it. Bring something with you for lunch. If we have a lunch stop that we can do, well do it. Not all of the options have a lunch stop.

I'll be at Chapman House most of the day Friday.

Friday night we will eat at El Coyote in Gurley at 6:15. KSU at 5:45pm at the Chapman House or meet us in Gurley.

Saturday

Breakfast - 8am at Chapman House, coffee will be ready earlier.
KSU at 9:30 for rides

Lunch - Dual Sport - bring something
Street Ride - Around noon at a restaurant

Supper - 6pm at Chapman House - Hotdogs and burgers on the grill

Sunday

Breakfast - 8am at Chapman House, coffee will be ready earlier.

I'll put together some local riding if anyone wants to get more miles.

Chapman House is on Al Hwy 65 (14813) between 14 and 15 mile marker. There will be a BamaRides metal sign at the road. There isn't an address at the road. Turn at sign, go between house and old church on gravel drive. Chapman House sits back in field behind old church.

Better to turn where the marker is on the road. That is our driveway and where the Bama Rides sign will be hanging. Follow drive around to the parking behind the house.  You can turn where the blue dots show, but that is a rough transition from road to gravel drive.

I was really hoping to attend this event and had not confirmed because of a tentative network downtime at the hospital where I work. Looks like the network downtime and upgrade is going to happen so while y'all are having a blast at the "Ralley in the Valley" I will be stuck at the hospital to the wee hours of the morning upgrading code on switches! YAY!! I hope you all have fun and I will see you at the vintage meet.

Dang Greg, I saw you get caught at that light, then we kept going straight for a while and I kept looking back to see if you were catching up, then I didn't see you anymore. We pulled off and waited, but after a while figured everyone had just cut off and headed back over to 72.

Did you keep going straight through town after that light?
Title: Re: Ralley in the Valley IV
Post by: mojo1 on September 10, 2016, 07:14:12 PM
Well I  was looking back for the others and didn't see them so I pulled over and then thought I seen them coming and started back on thru town. I went straight on down and after looking back I didn't see them, so I pulled over again thinking they may have got caught by a light. After a few minutes turned around going back into town not seeing anyone. After heading on down I didn't never see y'all so I took 117 to Flat Rock and made my way on home thru Lake Guntersville. I needed to get on home anyway. It was a good day in all, Just now got home with 430 miles for day.

As we got into South Pittsburg we didn't see anyone. Bergman was 2 up and riding hard with about all clearance he had in to curves but we couldn't keep up with the pace you guy were running. We followed 159 out to 72 and stopped briefly. All three lights in town got us. Bergman needed to check on his dogs before returning to the camp area and I had a hundred miles home which I managed to turn into 150. I tried to call Johnny to let him know we were leaving but no answer.

It was a good ride though and thanks to Johnny for putting it together and to all that made it out and making it a good time. Good to see everyone and good to meet others for the first time.

thanks to Johnny and Sandy for hosting, and feeding us in their own back yard . it was a very nice view to share with y'all, looking up at the mountains. the tour and homes history was pretty humbling also, knowing how things used to be. :-)

Griff- thanks for a surprisingly great ride in the Florida hill country. I never would have guessed we could ride that far into gator country and still find rocky ledges and endless hill climbs ;-)

great pictures win!

good to see you Glenn!

the rest of you, sorry I got there so late, next time I'll hitch up earlier.

thanks again Johnny and Sandy, that was really nice of you.

Had a great time seeing and meeting everyone. The technical dualsport ride was fantastic and the bonfire, rain and conversation were superb! Thank you to Johnny and Sandy for the hospitality and to Griff for the ride! It was a blast!
