Title: Icon Helmet banned by NM club racing
Post by: Mulley on November 12, 2018, 10:56:15 PM
"It seems like every time someone crashes in [an Icon helmet] they end up with a concussion"

They don't quote any studies or statistics but you can bet this kind of coverage won't go unnoticed by the folks at Icon. The same organization had previously banned KBC helmets.

I don't own an Icon helmet but if I did I would definitely pay attention to this.

Hopefully they will add a MIPS system to them.
I'm a big fan of ICON helmets and have been wanting another variant, I think I'll wait to see what they do for improvements.

Thanks for the heads up.

I checked earlier on the ICON safety certifications, and their road helmets have both the ECE 22-05 and latest DOT certifications.

However, I was curious if they had been tested by SHARP, and the Airmada has, and it only scored a "2". Worst areas were on the sides of the head. It would be interesting to see if that is the area where most of the concussion victims cited in this article had their initial impact on track.
