Title: 2018-12-05 Sanity Check Garage Party
Post by: Fencejumper09 on December 04, 2018, 09:42:25 AM
I am planning to do the top end on YZ 295 Wednesday night and could use a few more sets of eyes as a sanity check while I go through it.

Planning to get started around 6:00 PM so I can grab some pizza from Little Caesars or delivery. I have a case of Heineken in the beer fridge for anyone who drinks it but if you want something else you are on your own!

If you have something you need help working on feel free to bring it over too and we should be able to multi-task.

I have the tire changing stand and balancing stand as well.

Feel free to come hang out and watch us make some stupid mistakes that hopefully don't impede me riding this weekend!

@kylepeterson I have a compression tester so we should be good there!

Do you want ham and olives on your thin crust?

It was a solid night of buffoonery with @kylepeterson  and @bblass saying "it's fine" and @BrianAo34  and myself agreeing that parts need to be replaced. The head studs were boogered  from installation with vise grips. Several of the power valve screws had completely backed out for who knows how long and others had been nearly rounded out.

Needless to say more parts were ordered and hopefully reassembly will be soon.

Pics up tomorrow.

And also Brian ate a salad!

While I was impatiently waiting for my pizza to be delivered, the guys had removed most everything and were ready to remove the cylinder!

Not only did Brian show up with an extra pizza, because three isn't enough for 4 guys, but he brought a bowl of green leafy looking stuff!

THe cylinder and head came off with only minor setbacks and things did not look too bad. Looks like a leaking head gasket was the culprit for the coolant I was finding under my bike.

The bore looked good but someone installed the head studs with vise-grips on the top portion of threads. While Kyle and Ben said they wouldn't worry about it, the engineers in the room agreed it would be best to order some new studs.

Disassembly continued and to my surprise three of the bolts that are used to activate the powervalve had backed completely out. I always thought the bike lacked a little top end power so this may explain that.

So no assembly was performed last night but a shit load of parts were ordered this morning! Hope to get it buttoned up this weekend while it is rainy!

TKO training needs to start now! Sign-up is this evening!!

Don't know how I missed this event. Would sure liked to have made it. I've been hovering over the Ural doing nit picky things.
