I've got 12 days off in October, and I'm debating where we need to ride to.
I know the Smokie Mountains are beautiful that time of year, but you may wake up to 30 degree snow. And we've ridden that area A LOT.
So......Key West? Arkansas/Missouri Ozarks??
OR.....take the LOOOONG ride out West? Utah, New Mexico, etc...???
Feel free to make suggestions and list "must see" stuff.....
Thanks.
Texas - Big Bend, Terlingua, Hill Country, Twisted Sisters, Goliad, Alamo
Florida, West Palm Beach, Miami, Key West.
12 days is a bit short for a trip out west IMO because you would spend half of you vacation getting there and back. But, it would probably be a good time of year for it. There is some really cool stuff in the southwest. Marble Canyon, North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Zion N. P., Cedar Breaks, Bryce Canyon, Hwy12, Burr trail, Capital Reef, Moki Dugway and a lot more than you could see in the time you have.
Have you explored WV and Eastern KY? Some pretty cool stuff there. SE Ohio has some really good riding as well.
Arkansas, Missouri and the Ozarks? Pretty good riding there. Temps should be good in October.
Alright...after deciding to ride West....I checked average temps in October.....North rim is 54 high and low of 31 average in October. I think we'll put that ride off till a late August/September ride....
Looks like it might be Eastern Kentucky/West Virginia area for our 12 days in October....
Harlan County, Black Mountain Trails. Also Hatfield and McCoy Country!
We've got reservation for "Mile High Campground" on Tuesday night, October 8th....I hope it snows.
