Back in the BamaRide days, there was a section of photography dedicated to those murals we encounter while riding. I'd like to bring back that section because in addition to the old "ghost signs" from previous advertisements, I seem to be noticing more and more new murals coming up as a matter of civic pride.
I noticed this while stopping for a break in Rockford in Coosa County.

I'm assuming this was the side of the realty company so prominently featured, but I do like the local landmarks painted inside the letters as a nice touch.
Most of all, it's nice to see "Fred, the town dog" honored. Every dog get his day, I suppose.
There are a handful of murals in downtown Wetumpka, but this one not only incorporates the product of the store, but also gives a bit of history since Wetumpka sits on the site of a rare above ground impact crater.

The Dave mural is in memory of Dancing Dave, who was actually a resident of Cotton Box. A crossroads of two dirt roads just outside of Slocomb, AL, in Geneva Co. The story I always heard as a child(in Slocomb) was that Dave was a WWII veteran and had been "shell shocked", returning from the war to live in a small shack at the crossroads. He became a well known figure all around the Wiregrass, often seen hitch hiking and dancing. If I'm not mistaken, it was determined he had never been in the military, but I can't remember for sure. I never had a desire to debunk the lore I had grown up hearing.
