Title: "Who am I?" Relay Ride
Post by: Chitza on April 04, 2016, 07:29:08 PM
This game was popular for a minute on BR 1.0. I really enjoyed it.

You choose someone on the forum you have not ridden with, or know very little about, and go for a ride. The leader chooses the route and posts it here. The leader writes a report in the Ride Reports section telling about the ride and the person with whom they rode. That person then has the baton and plans the next ride. Make it interesting to attract the notice of someone who will want to ride with you, someone you do not know, know very little about or with whom you have never ridden. The previous rules allowed others to tag along, but the leader and the relay person are in control of the ride. I'll leave that up to the ride leader and tag along.  This should be posted in your original plan.

I will go first:

Ride will begin at a mutually convenient location and wind through NW Shelby Co and SE Jefferson Co. along the roads referred to as "The Gonzo", named for the map tracks that when viewed look like the head of Gonzo the muppet. Roads included will be Joiner Town Rd., FireTower Rd., Hwy 25 and Siccard Hollow Rd. The ride will end with a place to eat and/or have a beer. Tag alongside welcome. I am free most any weekday afternoon after 3:30pm, on school holidays and on the weekends.

Time announced when I have a taker and we decide.

I've heard tales of the gonzo but never had a chance to ride it. As long as it's not a spirited, peg-dragging sport ride I'd like to tag along when ya'll go.

Bwahahaha. You don't know me. You're in no danger whatsoever :)
I'll post here when we get the plans hashed out.

The Tag Grabber Ride

Well, after posting the new relay game and finding a willing victim, I mean riding partner, life got in the way and it took a few weeks to get the ride on. Greg, aka mojo1, was very patient and we missed a few opportunities before we found a few hours at the last minute on a beautiful weekday afternoon.

Greg road up on his 2006 FZ1 and I realized we had actually met a few times before but this would be a chance for me to get to know him. I dubbed this the Tag Grabber ride because this man is a beast for grabbing tags, riding from Springville to Red Bay for a tag when no one showed up for his posted ride. And he has snatched more than one tag out from under me by mere minutes.

Greg and I met at Grants Mill Rd and I-459 to run most of the Gonzo Loop. Actually we ran Picasso's cubist interpretation of the Gonzo. Grants Mill Road, Rex Lake Rd, Ziegler Rd, Elliot Lane to 25 all the way to Columbiana where we took Joiner Town Rd and FireTower Rd to Chelsea. We stopped along the way for me to grab the current photo tag. Complete with the tag owner's escort.

We stopped in Chelsea for a break and a little BamaRides PR. Met a guy on a new Ducati Monster, shared war stories and discussed fitting a bike to his vertically challenged girlfriend. A topic on which I had much to offer.

Also met a future rider who had stopped to look at every bike in the parking lot.

Ride safe, Cade!

All total about 150 miles on the day with loads of smiles on curvy roads, a patient riding partner and a photo tag grab. Thanks Greg! Hope your regular riding buddy(Lk2rd) is up and going again soon, but until then, let's hit some more roads!

The ride will begin at a convenient location and will wind up back roads from Sylacauga to Mt. Cheaha then to Jacksonville. This will be a long ride, If interested in a shorter ride I have some routes around Oak Grove area ( river roads ). Tag alongside welcome. I am free most weekends. Also the pace will be whatever you are comfortable with.

I had completely forgotten about this thread and riding game! I really would like to meet some more of the Bamarides crew! Anyone still interested in doing this game?

I can't do weekdays but would be up for a weekend ride in the dirt or on the street! The ball is technically in Mojo's court so he is still the leader. I know we have met once or twice but normally we separate as I go dirt and you street. Let me know if you are free this Saturday afternoon into evening and want to lead a ride!!

Had a good time on this ride, learned a few new roads, and had a great view of David pushing that KTM through the corners, wish I'd have brought the go pro but on the same token glad i got to listen to my music and just chill. Been a while since i've gotten to push my bike through corners without having to wait on a bunch of guys  that are slower. Really had fun, thanks mojo!

Street ride with a Dirt Rider

Well I didn't pick the best place to meet at, I had no idea that around Saw's bbq was going to be so busy.
We get together at a parking lot down the road to get started on the ride with IceCold4x4 and Lk2rd to join in on our journey.
We make our way out of Homewood over to Grants Mill rd winding our way over to Hwy 25 onwards going across Logan Martin Dam.
We stop for some gogo juice just outside of Talledega on Hwy 77.
From there we made our way up to Mt Cheaha where we stopped and got know each other better.
From there we headed north on towards Jacksonville making our to  Neely Henry dam. While there IceCold4x4 added a air to his front tire.
After chatting for a bit we head out going through Pell City where IceCold4x4 split off to get on home. We went down Wolf Creek rd and back up Hwy 25 Stopping at Cheveron on Grants mill for a chat before ending the ride for day. I thought it was kinda neat that I ended our relay ride where mine started.
We ended up with a little over 200 miles for day. David and I have meet before but this was the first ride together.
Fencejumper09 your up.

Well that was one heck of a ride!! I feel like there should be some sort of sub category of Iron Butts for Dual Sports!!

I had a blast riding some new roads and getting to know Mojo, meeting LK2RD, and cruising with IceCold4x4!

So with my Sena I can choose music OR intercom, sorry IceCold I chose music for this ride! I ran my gps tracker but since I am still trying to figure it out, it did not record any tracks while the screen was off. This is probably for the better so that there is no evidence!

I am still pretty new to this road riding but I think my bike makes up for my short comings in the tight twisties! It was great to ride with some truly talented riders! Mojo1 was pushing that FZ1 and I caught myself, more than once, watching him almost scrape the pegs and not paying attention to the road ahead. (I think he added a few new scuffs to his boots) It really was a good "no nonsense" day of riding!

I got pretty much the same pictures as everyone else! No GoPro footage this trip!

Sometime I do think my bike looks stupid still having the numbers on it from the Perry Mountain 24Hr but it makes for a funny conversation when on the street! "Oh do you race?" "Yeah, but only 24 hour enduro events!"

For my "Who am I?" ride we have options!!

If someone wants to do any of the ride options listed below just let me know! Looking forward to meeting more of the great people of Bamarides!! Also if someone wants to do something completely different I am up for that as well. I feel like you really get to know someone through adversity or uh I mean adventure! Let's explore!!

Ride Options:
(Not in any order of preference)
1. Nice and easy road cruising (<200 miles) with food and/or beverage stops around the Birmingham area

2. Fun spirited twisty roads wherever we can find them

3. Nice and easy gravel roads around the Cahaba River WMA (Maybe a hill climb or two if we are up for it)

4. Tough and technical single track

Post up if any of these sound fun or terrible enough for you!!

Fencejumper if this is still going on I'd be down for any of the 4, although my DS is in the shop right now so that puts a delay on the dirt rides unless you wanna ride somewhere I can take the 4wheeler. I have the Sena SMH10R that I'm still learning to use...I'm assuming we could link those up somehow.

oh, is that how this works...

well, I just bought a fancy new rear tire for my SM wheels, so the next ride I plan might be a bit more "sporty".   ;D

we shall see.
