2023 AWARDS
The Annual Last Ride of the Year event likes to encourage four things by offering awards for attendees.
We want new riders to start traveling and enjoying exploring on two wheels,  so we have an award for the youngest rider.
The youngest rider must ride their own motorcycle to the event. Passengers are not elligible,  because some of y'all are competitive when it comes to awards and we don't want riders strapping a baby seat on the luggage rack just to win a plaque. 😱😉
We want older riders to keep travelling, so we have an award for the oldest rider to ride their motorcycle from their home to the event. You usually have to be over 80 to win this, which is amazing!👍👍
We like for vintage owners to keep old bikes running and on the road. So we have an award for the oldest bike ridden from the rider's home to the event. You can't trailer the bike to the parking lot next door and ride it across the street. Nope.🫵
All brands and styles of motorcycles are welcome. We have cruisers, tourers, sport bikes, sport touring bikes, dual sport bikes, vintage bikes, custom bikes, and long distance competition bikes. 😎
No one cares about brands or style of riding at this event. We are all gathering as friends because we ride on two wheels and appreciate that fact in a world where fewer and fewer people are willing to learn the skills needed and embrace the adventure of riding a motorcycle. ❤️
Trikes, side cars, and three wheelers are always welcome, but only motorcycles qualify for awards.
My friend Ray Fagan (RIP) started this event out 27 years ago as a meeting of long distance riders, so we also have an award for the longest distance ridden to the event, from the time the rider leaves home to arriving at the Stagecoach Cafe on Dec 30th.
The rules allow riders to count all the miles they have covered since leaving home on their way to the event as long as they are riding consecutive days. We have had several riders in past years make this event a part of their travels while recording some big miles. We do require riders to have IBA style receipts to back up their claims, if needed.
You must be present at the 12 noon awards ceremony to be elligible for the awards. We have tried sign up sheets in the past, but most riders never signed in. We also know some riders show up early for breakfast and head home before lunch. Unfortunately, that means that sometimes the youngest or oldest present at some point during that day might not be recognized. But having the awards at noon every year and requiring the winners to be present has been the best way we have found to be fair to everyone involved.
We had to change award vendors this year and the plaques will not be ready on the 30th. We will record the addresses of the winners and mail the plaques to them. Please accept our apologies for this glitch in the matrix.
Thanks in advance to Joyce and her awesome staff for feeding a huge crew of riders, I don't know how they manage to do it. Everyone I have heard from in the past has been very complimentary of the food and service. Please pay for your meal, thank your servers, and generously tip your hard working wait staff! ❤️
Having the 30th on a Saturday and a good weather forecast for 2023 should make for a huge event!
Don't miss out on meeting old friends, making new friends, eating great southern cooking, and closing out 2023 on your motorcycle.
See y'all there on Saturday!
Ride smart and safe! 👍👍

I do not check the forum as regular as I once did, but what a pleasure to find a trip report.  I will never be a trails rider, but I can certainly enjoy reading about the adventures of those who are.  And to have a father/son drinkin..err riding trip, is epic indeed.

Thank you for taking the time to write this up!

Meet: Old Taft Depot

Time: 9:30 - KSU 9:45

Ride whatever you want but I'll be leading on a 150cc scooter. You might have more fun on a smallbore bike. I'm thinking lunch at Tina's and back to Taft by 3 but that's not set in stone. I'm going to try to pick a route with as many fun curves as possible. I'll keep it on the pavement but will probably do some paved goat trails.

Meet: RideNow Powersports on Memorial PKWY.

Time: 9:30, KSU 9:45.

Lunch will be in Scottsboro and we will finish in Gurley. Possible rain starting at 3 tomorrow so we'll keep an eye on the forecast and try to finish early enough so everyone can get home dry.
