They are actually cooling towers for a nuclear reactor.

Yep...to me, they're just both where the magic juice comes from. I've often wondered why the coal plant has such a "nuclear" looking tower...but I have absolutely no comprehension of the sorcery behind power generation.

I've often wondered why the coal plant has such a "nuclear" looking tower...but I have absolutely no comprehension of the sorcery behind power generation.

It's just a certain style of cooling tower, doesn't necessarily correspond to a type of power plant.
