Hello!

I bought a DR650 a few months ago and I'm looking for some off roading as I've grown tired of my family's hunting club and the woods by my house. I haven't done any upgrades yet so something light would be preferable. I'm in the Montevallo area. Other than the Talladega National Forest is there any other places to ride around this area that is public and legal? I wasn't sure about the CWMA, haven't been there in 15+ years.

I'm a returning rider from my youth so I'm still getting back in the swing of things!

Any help is appreciated and if there are any groups going riding soon I'd like to tag along if possible.

Welcome from Huntsville.  There are a couple of dual sport events coming up.

Other rides may pop up in the dirt & dual sport rides section.  There are a lot of places ti ride dual sport in Alabama and we occasionally do rides in other states as well.  A couple of groups went to Colorado this year.  Take a look in the ride reports sections to see some of the rides people in this forum have done.

Here's the ride report From the last  Dual Sporting the Free State which is normally our biggest dual sport event of the year: https://www.motorcyclealabama.com/rides/index.php?topic=3480.0

A landowner took his property out of the CWMA and leased it to deer hunters which took the heart of the place. I used enjoy riding and camping there usually.. :)

But there is a lot of remote county dirt road riding in Coosa County, just dirt no gravel, no houses, no dogs.
