The year was 1986. My buddy's CBX and my Nighthawk S in the pic.

It was my first long distance trip. We rode the interstate NE and started the ride back home at Front Royal, VA at mile 0 of Skyline Drive then continued on when Skyline Drive turned into the Blueridge Parkway at Rockfish Gap, VA, riding the BRP all the way to the end.

What is the name of the geological feature?

Cahawba was once Alabama's state capital (1819-1826) and a thriving antebellum river town. It became a ghost town shortly after the Civil War. Today it is an important archaeological site and a place of picturesque ruins.

New location....

Enough of you were on this ride that someone should recognize this place.  Bonus points for naming the ride.

Sammax Ride.
Jim Oliver's Smokehouse Restaurant - Monteagle, Tn.

That was a very good thing.

Edited to add the pic:

It's a pretty well know spot. Tellico Plains -> Robbinsville area.

Yep.  It was a good thing.  I was really glad to be able to participate in this ride.  I'm tempted to try to re-create the ride report for this since the original was lost with the old BR.

Your turn.

Based on the fog I'm going to guess it's one of the parking areas on the Cherohala Skyway.  I don't recognize it but I'll guess the Hooper Bald Trailhead parking area?
