There's a lot to see in the Black hills.  We spent 5 days riding the area and I'm glad we had that many days.  Here's some pics from day 3.

More pics from Monday:

We stopped for lunch at the edge of Keystone.  While eating a guy came up and talked to us.  He recognized me from my ride reports on ADV.  He was riding a Super Tenere from Wisconsin.

Our next stop.

More riding..

Quote from: Merkur Man on September 21, 2025, 09:30:50 PMThat looks like an Awesome trip. I'm liking all of your pictures.
My wife and i rode to Sturgis in 2002. While staying in Mitchell, did you visit the famous "Corn Palace". Its truly a wonder to see.
We also toured a Mustang Shelby museum there. They claim to have 1 Shelby from every year produced.
And I also remember there being a HUGE Cabela's just off the Interstate.
Safe travels.

It was a great trip.  I need to get off my butt and post some more pics.

I loaded up my bike and continued to Mitchell, SD where I spent the night.  The next day I drove west on I-90 stopping at the famous Wall Drug Store.  It was quite the tourist trap.

Ride Reports / Scooting the Black Hills
Last post by klaviator - September 18, 2025, 03:21:27 PM
The Black Hills have been on my bucket list for a long time.  I planned on going there in June but I ended up having to cancell due to having my hip replaced at the end of May.  I rescheduled in September which worked out well.  September is after the peak tourist season so I was hoping for less traffic.

I planned this on the ADV forum and 4 others decided to join me.  Besides myself we would have riders from Alabama, Tennessee, Texas and Colorado.

I addition to riding the Black hills I wanted to check off some states from my list.  I had never been to North or South Dakota.  In addition to those two states I had never ridden a motorcycle or scooter in Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, or Wisconsin.

On Friday 9-5 I took off on my truck with my Vespa in the Back and drove to Concordia, MO.  The next day
I entered South Dakota for the first time.  I asked someone to take my pic and it turned out it was his first time in SD and he was from Alabama too!

i drove to Sioux Falls where a Forum Member offered to guide me on a ride. As soon as we rode off I could check SD off my list of states ridden.

Not long afterwards:

We stopped and took some pics at an old bridge over the Big Sioux River.

A little later I checked off another state.
