I've never been personally, but I've heard good things about it and know some who choose it as a nice bike ride from Montgomery.

Would there be good/scenic/fun roads to get there from Tuscaloosa?

Nothing spectacular.  Hwy 82 from Tuscaloosa through Prattville is the easiest route but just a typical busy highway.  However, from my limited experience on the other backroads further west I do not recall anything nice enough to warrant the further miles as a detour. I looked back through some of my trip reports and see where I covered some

I will suggest that when you are in South Montgomery County heading down, you either take Mount Zion Road down to 94 or take 331 and then make a slight detour on Butler Mill Rd\Old Sellers Road. A short ride either north or south on 331 depending on if you go all the way or turn on Union Academy Ada Rd will put you near 94 and on into Grady.
